Hoima City hosts the World Tourism Day Celebrations 2023

This year’s celebrations were held in Hoima City at the Boma Grounds under this year’s theme, Tourism and Green Investment as set by the UNWTO. It should be known that Hoima is one of the most gifted cities in Uganda with quite a number of features and tourism activities that can be a source of attraction to tourists. Among these are:

  • The Kibiro Hotsprings
  • Muhabura falls
  • Mparo Tombs
  • Bunyoro Kingdom Palace
  • Wambaya waterfalls
  • Katasiiha fort caves

The main objective of this year’s celebration is to continue the fight and promotion of responsible tourism practices while conserving the environment. This is hoped to be achieved through a number of ways such as; Plastic Recycling and Proper disposal, Use of Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Agriculture and value addition, hospitality business, Bio- Energy and many others. The ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda and other notable dignitaries in the Tourism sector. In her speech she strongly condemned the destruction of nature such as swamps and forests through which a number of Ugandans have lost lives and property as a result of floods and also this affecting the livelihood of the wild animals we bid to protect, she also encouraged and called for sustainable management of the available resources we are left in the country.

There were also other activities that happened for instance ; Trade Exhibitions, Explore Uganda football Cup, Medical Camp, Tourism Awards Night, Conferences, Musical and dance performances especially the ” Kinyenge”, a traditional one from the host land.
