10 Days Uganda-Rwanda Primate Tour in Uganda is a magical journey, promising you an experience like no other. Lots of awesome things to do. From visiting Kibale National park, game drive through Queen Elizabeth national park, then boat trip along the Kazinga Channel, continuing to Ishasha – Bwindi southern sector, and so much more. NOTE:

  • The gorilla tracking in this itinerary can be done in the northern sector of Bwindi (Buhoma)
  • Gorilla tracking is dependent on the permits availability at the time of your booking. Gorilla permits in all parks are on a very high demand and we advise that you book them as early as possible.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival – Entebbe –Kampala - 42km

On arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your representative from Churchill Safaris who will then transfer you to Kampala for the overnight at Best Western hotel.

Day 2Kampala – Kibale Forest (450 km approx. 5-6 hours)

After breakfast, you will depart Kampala for Kibale Forest National park arriving in the afternoon.
Kibale Forest is a large protected block of rainforest, which has the highest number of primates in Africa such as Chimpanzees, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Red Tailed monkey and Red Colobus. Relax and overnight at Turaco Treetops / Chimpanzee Guest House.

Day 3Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth National park

This morning, you will go for chimp tracking and be part of the team that goes to study the behaviour of these primates in order to make them get used to human beings. Spend the whole morning in the forest returning to the lodge in time for lunch. Later drive to Queen Elizabeth National park having a game drive while entering the park.

Spend the night at Kasenyi Safari Camp.

Day 4Queen Elizabeth

This morning, we will go for a game drive to the Kasenyi area returning to the lodge in time for a heartily breakfast.
Relax and then later go out for the afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. Hippos huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, Buffalos linger in the shallows, a tremendous variety of birds grace the grasses on the shores. Great White and Pink-Backed Pelicans, Great and Long-Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, African Jacana, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers are commonly seen. Spend the night at Kasenyi Safari Camp.

Day 5Queen Elizabeth – Ishasha sector

After breakfast, you will have a game drive as you depart Queen Elizabeth for the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth (Ishasha) famed for the tree climbing lions arriving at the camp in time for lunch. Relax in the afternoon and later go for an evening game drive and overnight at the Ishasha Jungle lodge

Day 6Ishasha – Bwindi southern sector. (Approx. 5 hours drive)

After breakfast, you will have a game drive in search of the tree climbing lions and later depart Ishasha for Kisoro passing via kabala with beautiful scenery of hills and valleys in between and terrace farming arriving at Nkuringo safari lodge in the afternoon. This is a lodge on the shores of Lake Mutanda which overlooks the Virunga Volcanoes near kisoro in the southwest.
Relax after lunch and overnight at Lake Mulehe Gorilla lodge. H/B You will need to have a good night’s rest to get ready for the following day’s gorilla tracking.

Day 7Gorilla Tracking –Bwindi southern group

This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for Gorilla tracking. Do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. There are now only 650 left in the world! The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours but its well worth the effort. There are always park guides with you who interpret the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. In the afternoon relax at the lodge and overnight at Lake Mulehe Gorilla lodge

Day 8Bwindi – Ruhengere

This morning you will go for an optional boat trip on Lake Mulehe or an optional visit to the Batwa community in Nyakabande where you will be entertained and then drive to Rwanda arriving in the evening.
Have a good rest for the following day’s optional gorilla tracking. Overnight at Da Vinci lodge.

Day 9Optional second Gorilla tracking - Kigali

Today, you will have an option of either going for the second gorilla tracking, Golden monkey tracking or a visit to the Diana Fossey’s grave. Set off to the departure point for a full briefing and to meet your gorilla trek guide. The guides will have been identifying the position of each gorilla group and know which is the closest departure point to trek from. The hiking is through thick, verdant rainforest. With your guide and porter using a machete to clear a path and assist you up and down steep terrain, spend time with the gorillas in their natural habitat is an amazing and unforgettable experience. The final trek times can vary enormously according to where the gorillas have moved to but most guests spend an hour with these amazing wild animals.
Later drive to Kigali and overnight at Frame Tree Village lodge.

Day 10Kigali-Fly out

After breakfast, have a city tour and then afterwards transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home.
