Itinerary -
Day One: Arrival
On arrival at the airport, you will be warmly
welcomed by your representative from Churchill
Safaris who will then transfer you to the hotel for
the over night. Dinner and over night at either
Lemigo Hotel kigali (high end accommodation) or
Mille Colline or Top Tower (Medium class) or Step
hotel. (Low budget) Kigali.B/B
Day Two: Kigali / Nyungwe
After breakfast, you will explore Kigali by
visiting the Genocide Museum and Caplaki Crafts
Centre. Later proceed to Nyungwe having a stop at
Nyanza and Butare National museum arriving in the
evening. Dinner and over night at either Nyungwe
Forest lodge (high end) or Hilltop hotel (Medium
class) or Gisakura guest house (budget
accommodation).
Day Three: Chimp Tracking - Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, you will go for Chimp tracking
in Nyungwe forest. Home of 13 species of primates
including chimpanzees, Nyungwe is a closed canopy
rain forest and has lots of forest dwelling birds.
There is also an option of goinbg for an afternoon
canopy walk and for those thathave interest in
botany, the flora in Nyungwe comes as an added
bonus. You will also have a chance to view the other
habitants of the forest like reptiles and
butterflies.
Dinner and over night at either Nyungwe Forest
lodge (high end) or Hilltop hotel (Medium class) or
Gisakura guest house (budget accommodation).
Day Four: Nyungwe – Lake Kivu by boat and then
to Ruhengere
This morning you will be transferred by your
guide to Kamembe port in cyangungu for a boat trip
on the Lake Kivu to explore the numerous islands,
islets and peninsulas as you head for Gisenyi. Visit
the various islands on Lake Kivu like Napoleon
Island, IJWI Island, Amahoro Island, all great for
birding and bat watching arriving at Gisenyi in time
for lunch. Later proceed to Ruhengere. Dinner and
over night at either Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
(high end), La palme Hotel (Medium class) or Hotel
Muhabura(Low budget). F/B
Day Five: Gorilla tracking
After breakfast it’s a short drive to the park
headquarters at Kinigi. Registration is a simple
process and it is here where the park staff will
determine which group of gorillas you will visit.
The park staff will discuss your fitness level and
will advise you of the trekking times and conditions
to reach the various groups, based upon their
location in the park the previous evening.
Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes
of this magnificent mountain range - home of the
rare mountain gorilla - and the rich mosaic of
montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and
bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath, but
the high point will be spending an hour with the
remarkably peaceful gorillas despite their size and
appearance as they go about their daily life,
feeding, playing, resting and raising their young.
Return in the afternoon and go for an optional
Ibyiwatu Cultural group performance where you will
get entertained by the Rwandase and get to know
about their culture in music, dance and drama or a
visit to the twin lakes and over night at either
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (high end), La palme
Hotel (Medium class) or Hotel Muhabura (Low budget).

Day Six: Options / Departure
This morning you can have an option of going for
the second gorilla tracking or an option of visiting
the Diana Fossey’s grave or the Golden monkeys and
later drive back to Kigali to catch your evening
flight back home.

Please Note:
Please note the gorilla tracking in this itinerary
can be done in Uganda as well if permits/accommodation
can’t be got in Rwanda at the time of your booking.
Gorilla tracking is dependant on the permits
availability at the time of your booking. Gorilla
permits in all parks are on a very high demand and we
advise that you book them as early as possible.
Note that there is an option of a second gorilla
track at a cost of $500 for each permit.

Please note that this program is based on basic
accommodation but not camping. Contact us should you
want to upgrade, degrade in any accommodation. We have a
lot of accommodation options starting from 5-star to low
budget hotels at very good rates.
What’s included?
Budget accommodation but not camping, park fees,
return transportation in a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle,
a full time experienced English speaking driver
guide, meals and taxes.
What’s not included?
Gorilla tracking permit ($500), optional cultural
performance, golden monkeys or the visit to the Diana
fossey’s grave, drinks, phone calls, laundry, driver’s
gratuity and any other extra requested activities.
